FAQs: Grants and Donations (G&D) and Journal Clubs and Rounds

How can requestors submit a request for a Grant or Donation?
All requestors are to complete an online application form. The form is used for all submissions. To learn more about our program, visit the G&D section of abbvie.ca. 

Can my local AbbVie contact assist me with completing the application process?
No. Only the AbbVie G&D Committee may assist you with your request. They can be reached at [email protected]. 

What types of organizations are eligible to receive funding?
Funding may only be provided to health care organizations, patient organizations, registered charities, public institutions, and other not-for-profit entities.

Can funds be paid/provided to a third party?
No. Funds cannot be paid to a third-party intermediary organization. Funds can only be provided to the requesting organization with the exception of hospitals where funding can be provided to the hospital’s foundation.

How long does it take to receive the acknowledgment of receipt with a reference number?
It may take up to five business days.

We submitted a request a couple weeks ago. Why haven't I received a decision on my funding request?
As indicated in the acknowledgment e-mail, it can take up to 90 days to process the request. You will receive an e-mail when the committee has reached a decision.

I would like to get in contact with someone from the committee to ask questions. How can I reach them?
If your question is not answered via our Q&A section, please e-mail us at [email protected] for Journal Clubs & Round related questions and for questions related to G&D, please e-mail us at [email protected]. Please ensure to reference Grant your ID number in all your correspondence.

Can I reach out to my AbbVie contact to get details on my pending application? No. The program is managed by a neutral independent committee with no commercial involvement. As such, any AbbVie contact other than the G&D committee are not privy to any details. All follow-up questions must be sent the associated e-mail address as indicated in the above question.

AbbVie have been supporting us year after year. Why was this year's request rejected?
Please note that although your organization may have been provided funding in the past, we have been receiving an unprecedented number of requests. We need to make difficult but necessary decisions as we cannot fund all incoming requests.

What information is required when the grant activity is completed?
You will be required to attest to a statement to confirm that the funds were used as outlined in the agreement.

Am I required to return any unused G&D funds?
As per the signed grant agreement, in the event that the grant has not been spent in its entirety within the 12 months following the payment made, the grant recipient is obligated to refund AbbVie the amount that has not been spent.
